The following district presented on the progress of their proposed project at the August 2, 2023 Massachusetts School Building Authority (the “MSBA”) Facilities Assessment Subcommittee (the “FAS”) Meeting:
Town of Clinton
Clinton Middle School
Phase: Feasibility Study
Owner’s Project Manager: Dore & Whittier Management Partners, Inc.
Designer: Lamoureux Pagano Associates Architects, Inc.
The Town of Clinton (the “District”), the Owner’s Project Manager, and design team presented an overview of the options studied during the Feasibility Study and the District’s preferred solution to proceed into Schematic Design to replace the existing Clinton Middle School with a new facility serving grades 4 through 8 on the existing site. MSBA staff has reviewed the Feasibility Study and accepts the District’s Preferred Schematic. The FAS, MSBA staff, and the District discussed: appreciation of the Educational Program and responses to comments; opportunity to increase World Language program offerings for all students including English Learners; proposed use and staffing considerations for the proposed Media Center and Maker Space; the size of the proposed parking in relation to the building as well as refinements to integrate safety measures, designated parking areas and green space; anticipated further refinement of the building massing to clarify scale and volumes, character and experience upon entry; appreciation of the layout of the academic and public spaces; distribution and use of Special Education spaces and DESE submittal process; student class size and age requirements related to sub-separate classrooms within a 4-8 grade configuration; and opportunities for renewable energy use such as geothermal wells, solar panels and other potential energy saving resources.
MSBA staff is currently working with the District to reach a mutually agreeable solution to recommend to the MSBA’s Board of Directors.
